Nu komen we met RC 2 wel heel dichtbij de release van Wordpress 2.5. De laatste week heb ik WP2.5 RC1 al draaien en heb ik al de nodige functies kunnen uittesten. Buiten het feit dat de layout van het dashboard en het hele admingedeelte volledig opnieuw opgebouwd zijn in een nieuw design zijn er ook nog wat andere functies bijgekomen. Eerst en vooral is er nu een beter ondersteuning voor tags, een makkelijke manager voor berichten (zowel published als draft), pagina’s, categorieën, links, media,.. Wat die laatste betreft, media, deze worden op een volledig nieuwe manier (en zelft te kiezen formaten) geüpload.
Om de nieuwe versie van harte welkom te heten, ben ik al vast begonnen met de ontwikkeling van een nieuw theme en zal ik me al mentaal voorbereiden op de upgrade
In the last months I saw a few new blogs coming like prawnsonthebarbie.be, tmclssns.net, pieterbaert.be/blog and davypeleman.be. All of them are making use of Kubrick 2 – better known as K2 as there theme.
Because of the fact that the standard K2 style is a bit basic and blue, “How do I make my own style for K2?” is a question I heard a few times. The answer isn’t that difficult and because I couldn’t find a nice tutorial online already, I decided to make one myself.
- The moment you want to make your own K2 style, you managed to install K2 on your Wordpress already, so I’m skipping those steps, check codex.wordpress.org for more info
- First you have to find your K2 theme folder at yourwordpresssite/wp-content/themes/K2 there you will find the general stylesheet style.css and a map called images/
- In this folder (yourwordpresssite/wp-content/themes/K2) you will also find a folder called /styles, here you can make a new folder for your first own style, let’s say myownstyle
- copy the general stylesheet and the map images to your new made folder
- Go in your Adminpanel to Presentation » K2 Options, here you can select your new new style in the dropdown.
- Once you have done this you can start pimping this stylesheet without having to worry about messing up the general stylesheet. Your new stylesheet will override all the style-elements and classes from the general stylesheet.
- !!! Just be carefull not to delete some elements of your new stylesheet, if you do so, the elements of the general stylesheet will be used. If you want no border, just set border: none; instead of deleting it
- And after some playing in css and adding some images you have your own K2 style,

Pascal berichtte vandaag over het feit dat er duizenden pietel-pagina’s niet meer vindbaar waren geworden na de up-date eerder deze maand.
Zoals hij zelf al aanhaalde, ‘niet zo verstandig’, en zo snel mogelijk ‘op te lossen’. Dean’s Permalinks Migration Plugin heeft het probleem kunnen oplossen door een eenvoudige 301-redirect op de oude url’s.
Deze week ‘even snel’ pietel’s blog geupgraded. Na het uploaden van de nieuwe 2.3.1 WP files was er wel een klein probleempje. Normaal upgrade je WP dan via wp-admin/upgrade.php maar deze pagina bleek leeg (geen HTML tag te besperuen) te zijn. Evenals de index en da wp-admin. Ik had vroeger al een problemen gehad met wordpress in combinatie met one.com dus ik meteen ‘aan den chat’ met one.com. Daar konden ze mij niet echt veel verder helpen dan ‘Ja ge moet u php-errors opzetten en dan is da binnen 20 minuten wel in orde’. Uiteindelijk was men laatste oplossing nog om zowel de folders themes en plugins even af te zonderen en ja nu kon ik de update toch starten.
Nadien kwam ik dit nog tegen op de wordpress site:
Deactivate your plugins. A plugin might not be compatible with the new version, so it’s nice to check for new versions of them and deactivate any that may cause problems. You can reactivate plugins one-by-one after the upgrade.
Bij deze dus mijn verontschuldigingen aan alle pietel-fans die een tijdje op een witte pagina hebben moeten staren.

Ondertussen is ook Pieter’s nieuwe blog over fotografie onder hande genomen in afwachting tot het nieuwe design dat ten vroegste voor januari zal zijn.
Vorige week kwam ik deze WordPress Help Sheet van wpcandy tegen, een handig A4′tje voor mensen die Wordpress themes schrijven.
Hier bij ons op het bureau hangt het A4′tje alvast omhoog.

TAGStention is een extensie voor Dreamweaver. Ik ben nooit een echte voorstander van Dreamweaver geweest maar deze plugin van Bas Wenneker maakt het wel heel makkelijk op een nieuw theme voor wordpress te maken. Tot nu toe maakte ik mijn themes nog in Notepad en verving dan systematisch de voorbeeldtekst met de wp_tags wat toch net iets omslachtiger was.
Verder is clean archive ook nog wel een toffe plugin van diezelfde makers.

Nu dat er dan toch nog een skivakantie op de agenda staat dit jaar heb ik maar weer eens een nieuwe template tevoorschijn gehaald.
Een minimalistische frisse witte layout met een banner waarvan ik me meteen ergens hier ver vandaan waan.
Last week Matt. introduced something new on the Wordpress Blog. He asked the Wordpress users, community, or whatever you want to call it to collaborate en think about the things you miss in Wordpress so it can maybe be integrated in tte new releases.
If you could add anything in the world to WordPress, what would it be? If you could name the thing that frustrates you the most about WP, what would that be?

Now that I have used Nucleus for about a year I’m coming back to where I’ve started. Not completely, the first blogsoftware I used was Pivot but after that, the first blogsoftware I used (using a DB) was Wordpress. By now I don’t know why I switched to Nucleus a year ago but hey I’m back :) Tanks to a very nice Nucleus to Wordpress converter.
